Spotlight on: The Olympics

It's no secret. I LOVE the Olympics. If I could I would watch 24/7 during the 2 weeks that they are on... Unfortunately life still goes on. It's tragic. Luckily I was on holiday the first week of the games this year so I did get to watch all I wanted! I can't believe the games are already over... and now we have to wait another 4 years for them again. Sad

Now I could never sum up everything that happened during this years games, but here are a few of the most memorable moments from London (in my opinion at least!)

Missy Franklin! This girl is an amazing swimmer and so cute. At 17 she is accomplishing such great things at such a young age. I used to swim, and watching her reach such huge success at her age is just incredible. Everytime she is interviewed she always has a smile on her face, and seems so mature for someone still in high school! I can't wait to watch this girls' career!

Paula Findlay. Canadian thriathalete. This girl broke my heart at these games. Watching her apologize to our country for losing was heart wrenching! As a fellow Canadian I can say that she has nothing to be sorry for and that we are proud to have her represent our country. After not competing for an entire year due to injury the fact that she still raced was amazing. Please don't be sorry Paula! Your country is behind you!

The Canadian women's soccer team winning bronze! After a devastating defeat by the Americans to try and win a bid to the gold medal game these girls made an amazing recovery to beat the French in the bronze medal match. Again, this is a team that has battled this year, overcoming adversity and a lot of negative press to achieve this goal. Amazing job ladies. You did Canada proud!

Rosie MacLennan's gold in women's trampoline. This was Canada's only gold during these games so of course we will all remember her! I actually know her sister so watching Rosie was pretty exciting for me! Trampoline is a sport that I honestly know nothing about, but that's part of what makes the Olympics so great... watching sports that I wouldn't otherwise get the chance to see!

Men's triathlon crash involving Simon Whitfield and Leonardo Chacon. There were big medal hopes following Simon into these games... Unfortunately he crashed early in the bike leg, bringing down with him Leonardo Chacon. While this was a devastating outcome for both athletes, Chacon took the high road and sent Simon such a heartfelt facebook message after the crash. If you haven't seen it I encourage you to google it. So touching. I will remember this one for a while!

Others that I need to mention (from top): Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, Ryan Cochrane and Brett Hayden. Now I don't need to explain the first two, everyone knows who they are. But Ryan and Brett were our Canadian swimmers who earned medals at these games. Since I used to swim I am always partial to the swimming events, so I couldn't finish this post without mentioning them! Congrats guys

Well I guess I have no excuse not to study anymore...
I hope everyone enjoyed the games as much as I did!
